After graduating from the University of Texas, Jeff Murdock entered the homebuilding business. He began building custom homes in Texas, later moving to Colorado and eventually to North Carolina in 1988.
 Steve Gannon, co-principle of Murdock & Gannon, entered the home building business in 1979 while living in New York. After moving to North Carolina in 1983, Steve started Gannon's Construction. Coming from a background of a trim carpenter, Steve was able to bring his formidable attention to detail to every home he built.
In 1995 Jeff and Steve, long time friends, decided to combined their talent and experience to form Murdock & Gannon, Inc.
